Telephone access for The Zone

Category: Zone BBS Suggestions and Feedback

Hey,
There should be telephone access to The Zone for those people who do not have internet access. It would also give people who do have internet access a choice. They could either access The Zone by phone or the internet.

Post 2 by Selena Fan (Account disabled) on Friday, 31-Mar-2006 20:46:02

Wow I love that idea! I think I'd be here more offten if I could use the Zone via the phone!

Post 3 by Telemachus (Death: the destroyer of worlds.) on Friday, 31-Mar-2006 21:43:46

It's an interesting idea. You'd have to find a way to make everything voice accessible, or something. And something like that would be expensive. It'd probably have to be a premium only feature.

Post 4 by drummerguy425 (Veteran Zoner) on Saturday, 01-Apr-2006 1:56:01

if the zone was via phone wouldn't it just be like a gigantic teleconference with a pool of drama, smack dab in the middle of it?

Post 5 by cuddle_kitten84 (I just keep on posting!) on Saturday, 01-Apr-2006 13:09:07

it'd be a cool idea, we'd get to hear each other's voices and stuff and you'd have to make the number an 0800 one or something like that, so everyone can use it around the world, i love the idea.

Post 6 by yankee g wolverine (Account disabled) on Saturday, 01-Apr-2006 14:36:43

I really think this is a shitty idea, that is just me though

Post 7 by chocolab (move over school!) on Saturday, 01-Apr-2006 20:42:31

I agree with him, it would just make one long distance charges soar, two just be a bitch to set up and three, there's nothing new being developed who says this would get any attention.

Post 8 by yankee g wolverine (Account disabled) on Saturday, 01-Apr-2006 20:45:05

damn right!

Post 9 by kelly (Zone BBS Addict) on Saturday, 01-Apr-2006 23:09:41

its gay people would just be trying to have phone sex cuz they can't get none in real life lol

Post 10 by Big Pawed Bear (letting his paws be his guide.) on Sunday, 02-Apr-2006 4:07:18

these kind of services are expencive to maintain and would be a bitch on the long distance phone call charges front. no go I think here.

Post 11 by lights_rage (I just keep on posting!) on Sunday, 02-Apr-2006 13:39:15

um hello its a website it has way too much for the phone type stuff.

Post 12 by cuddle_kitten84 (I just keep on posting!) on Sunday, 02-Apr-2006 17:02:49

lol don't even get me started on phone sex, it's disgusting and i've heard someone do it before, so no more on that please.

Post 13 by nikos (English words from a Greek thinking brain) on Sunday, 02-Apr-2006 20:12:45

I think it's getting confusing what the original poster means by phone access. Does it mean just a phone chat between zone users or accessing the site through the phone like the boards, quicknotes etc? That's what i didn't understand.
I don't see the point in any of these two possibilities. It would be expensive especialy for users from abroad.

Post 14 by frequency (the music man) on Monday, 10-Apr-2006 10:13:49

not only that, but i wouldn't wanna spend 30 seconds just typing hello all.

Post 15 by cuddle_kitten84 (I just keep on posting!) on Wednesday, 12-Apr-2006 6:32:42

lol, though it would be good if, however, someone is using a braille note and can't hear someone's voice, i know a person in this situation.

Post 16 by rat (star trek rules!) on Wednesday, 12-Apr-2006 11:24:58

yeah, that person is me.

Post 17 by jessmonsilva (Taking over the boards, one topic at a time.) on Wednesday, 12-Apr-2006 11:39:21

Well that's what vt, or getting people's phone number is for, so essentially there is a way to hear people's voices.

Post 18 by laced-unlaced (Account disabled) on Thursday, 13-Apr-2006 7:51:54

no, but it would be good. say maybe accesing it through a mobile?

Post 19 by mysticrain (Art is born of the observation and investigation of nature.) on Thursday, 13-Apr-2006 9:50:59

I don't see this happening. It's a website, way too much info for the phone. Also, as other people have said, way too expensive on both the developers and the users. And about phone sex. I think it's dumb if you just call up sex lines and do it. But if you have a gf/bf and you're apart, are you telling me that you've never done it or would consider doing with that gf/bf?

Post 20 by jessmonsilva (Taking over the boards, one topic at a time.) on Thursday, 13-Apr-2006 10:40:33

amen, Jen!

Post 21 by mysticrain (Art is born of the observation and investigation of nature.) on Thursday, 13-Apr-2006 11:45:29

thank you

Post 22 by south park fan (the Zone BBS remains forever my home page) on Wednesday, 30-Aug-2006 12:08:24

Well, I thought this was a good idea but since most of you who posted to this topic don't like my idea, I guess it won't happen. If it does I'll be supprised.
I don't know why alot of you have to be so negative.

Post 23 by wildebrew (We promised the world we'd tame it, what were we hoping for?) on Wednesday, 30-Aug-2006 14:10:21

Well, firstly this suggestion was so vaguely phrased that it's hard to understand. What would you mean by "telephone access" are you talking the users, or the boards, if you're talking about the boards, do you mean you should be able to dictate a board post and have some sort of speech recognition software on the other end recording it for you, or are you talking about cell phone access to the Zone (if you have a web-enabled cell phone I don't see why you shouldn't be able to log on and, even if there are no technical hurdles for that, how would you be able to part take in the qns or properly read or type to the boards, typing on a phone takes forever).
And who would come up with that. Most people complain about the $25 premium charge, implementing some sort of phone access to chats would cost a lot more than that.
I just think that ideas to the suggestion boards should be at least thought out well enough so that people can understand and also ere on the side of being reasonable. I mean, sure, you can suggest zoners get 75% of all travel and apparel on Ebay, but it's hardly a relevant suggestion.
Keeping this as a web site is perfect and making it into anything else makes no sense really.

Post 24 by mistervera (the Zone BBS remains forever my home page) on Wednesday, 30-Aug-2006 14:55:56

This idea would be quite expensive and just no use because now we have wireliss and online every where!

Post 25 by yankee g wolverine (Account disabled) on Wednesday, 30-Aug-2006 15:54:00

oy, it's just a bad idea, for all the reasons mentioned before

Post 26 by nikos (English words from a Greek thinking brain) on Wednesday, 30-Aug-2006 16:43:16

I agree with wildebrew.

It's not the fact that we are negative. We just didn't understand what type of phone access you mean.
Explain how do you want to access the zone on the phone and we can discuss if it is a good or bad idea.

Post 27 by maddog (I'll have the last word, thank you!) on Wednesday, 30-Aug-2006 18:11:35

lol I seriously doubt that this idea will come to pass. Too much work, and not enough people interested in it.

Post 28 by admin (I just keep on posting!) on Saturday, 02-Sep-2006 12:45:44

Wouldn't it worknow with those net by phone services? Anyone tried this?

Post 29 by Blue Velvet (I've got the platinum golden silver bronze poster award.) on Sunday, 03-Sep-2006 3:06:29

I don't get how this would work. I mean the zone is so interactive. How could you play the games, chat on quicknotes, read and post to boards, etc.?

Post 30 by YOUR ANGRY SELF (Account disabled) on Sunday, 24-Sep-2006 15:09:53

I do believe this could work with Web net phone access. We would need more info on the orriginal topic, but I believe it would work.

Post 31 by redgirl34 (Scottish) on Sunday, 24-Sep-2006 15:52:06

The zone is fine the way it is.

Post 32 by yankee g wolverine (Account disabled) on Monday, 25-Sep-2006 19:31:52

the suggestion wasn't to change it, it was to make another feature for it
still, I don't believe this idea is a good one

Post 33 by Jess227 on Monday, 25-Sep-2006 22:00:03

I really don't like this idea.

1. Too expensive
2. Who's gonna have the man power to run it?
3. Other ways to VoIP: Skype, Ventrilo and of course MSN, Yahoo, and Aim all have voice chat features.
4. Be more clear on what you want: Do you want to hear the boards, or do you want a peer 2 peer chat line?
5. I know there are social phone services out there, but long distance charges may apply. Just need to look.
6. Get a conference number... Whatever happened to those?

Seriously dude I don't like your idea. I'm confused as to what you really want here. I agree with Wildbrew, if it's access over a cell phone uh, it's hard to type on a phone and takes too long. Why would you consider something like this when this site is a website?

Post 34 by maddog (I'll have the last word, thank you!) on Tuesday, 26-Sep-2006 0:22:47

lol sorry to say this people, but I very very highly doubt that it'll ever happen.

Post 35 by yankee g wolverine (Account disabled) on Tuesday, 26-Sep-2006 15:35:55

good, I'd hate to see it happen, personally

Post 36 by Jess227 on Tuesday, 26-Sep-2006 23:34:11

agreed, I hate the idea. The idea of this happening really sickens me because of all that time and labor for what? One perso nto use the feature and who's gonna pay for it?

Post 37 by sugarbaby (The voice of reason) on Wednesday, 27-Sep-2006 2:34:34

mmm some people spend far too much time on here as it is, if you enabled them to access the site via the phone in the times when the web wasn't accessible to them, they really would have no lives.

Post 38 by south park fan (the Zone BBS remains forever my home page) on Wednesday, 27-Sep-2006 17:30:06

People spend a lot of time on here because they like it. Its fun.

Post 39 by TylerK (This site is so "educational") on Saturday, 14-Oct-2006 9:37:49

This would be way too epensive to do. It can't be done. Thanks for posting, though!

Post 40 by sandrita87 (Zone BBS Addict) on Saturday, 14-Oct-2006 18:26:12

Nice, but it would be too chaotic and too expensive.

Post 41 by FlyingPhoenix (move over school!) on Tuesday, 09-Jan-2007 21:48:55

Not expensive I used to do it for my christian website

Post 42 by AngelKisses (An angel with no Halo) on Wednesday, 10-Jan-2007 12:08:31

If it takes too long to type on a phone, why do people do text messaging all of the time? or have web access on their phones? If you want to do it, who cares how logn it takes. After a while you'd get pretty damn quick at it anyway. I think it would be kind of cool to call up an 800 number to the zone and be able to qn and read and post to the boards. I mean no voicing or anything. I don't think it would be too hard, and if you didn't like it, well you wouldn't have to do it. If someone else wanted to type everything out on a phone, more power to them. But I would like this.

Post 43 by fuzzy101 (The master of fuzz!!) on Wednesday, 10-Jan-2007 19:26:07

Well for us users anyway, if you really want to hang out on the phone all day then I suggest phillmore productions.
He has a voicemaile system that allows for chat groups and he's working on a separate chat system.
Call, 773-572-3000 for more info.

Post 44 by Jage (Zone BBS, a decade of madness) on Tuesday, 16-Jan-2007 17:31:40

Just did some checking on this. You're looking at about $10 for 90 minutes, $15 for 300+ minutes, a bit over $20 for 900+ minutes by calling a local number in Chicago. With that, you'd get Email, news, games, etc. and some additional Zone BBS options such as browsing message board posts, listening to audio profiles, possibly recording audio profiles over the phone, and maybe some other features if we can find a way to translate parts of the website to the phone. If there's interest, I'll pursue this, though I realize the cost-per-minute could be a bit much. Alternatively, you could call a toll-free number and get slightly less minutes for the same price.

Post 45 by Damia (I'm oppinionated deal with it.) on Tuesday, 16-Jan-2007 17:39:54

if anything would come of this i'd say they shouldn't put the typing crap and games but maybe have a conference line password protected for the zone. other wise i couldn't see interest.

Post 46 by Chris N (I just keep on posting!) on Wednesday, 17-Jan-2007 11:24:21

Nothing is stopping one of you from creating a passwword-protected room on one of the free conferencing solutions and using the Conference feature to advertise it. :)

Post 47 by FlyingPhoenix (move over school!) on Tuesday, 01-May-2007 11:11:47

I think they should readd the conference feature
